This calculator developed by Google, the Travel Impact Model, is designed to estimate the CO₂ emissions of flights offered by the booking system.
The emissions for each flight, the average emissions per route, and the difference between them are shown on the flight search results page.
The calculation of these emissions is based on the methodology published by the European Environment Agency (EEA).
Jean-Paul Leclerc, Sales Director Resaneoclarifies: “We want to make life easier for our agencies by providing them with more and more services, but we do it in a way that is pleasant and understandable at first glance. Indeed, in addition to the number of bags included and the ability to make a flight optional, we now indicate whether a flight emits more or less CO₂ compared to the average of other flights on the same route.
We symbolize this with a small cloud ☁️, this allows you to see whether the selected flight is in the low average or high average CO₂ range. In this way, the agency can, if it wishes, inform its client about the carbon footprint of the flight it plans to take. This will also make it easier to sell a direct flight, even if it costs more than a connecting flight.
It’s simple and very complete as you just need to hover your mouse over the ☁️ to get all the information.
