Investigators have completed the investigation of the case against the 44-year-old head of one of the departments of the Odessa psychiatric hospital and his 66-year-old father, who worked in the same department as a resident doctor.
Men, in exchange for bribes, “diagnosed” conscripts with mental illnesses, for which they can now be imprisoned for 10 years.
During the preliminary investigation, the police established that the son and the father had established a “business” with men who, because of their age, were subject to mobilization, but did not want to serve in the army. Relatives, for a monetary reward, provided “clients” with medical reports regarding mental illness to avoid conscription for military service, as well as certificates of inpatient treatment in a mental hospital for presentation to employees of the territorial recruitment and social support center.
Law enforcement officials detained the attackers during the execution of one of these transactions, which cost the “client” 165 thousand hryvnias.
At the office, the head of department handed the latter a certificate signed by himself and his father stating that the man had been hospitalized for two weeks and a prescription for mental disorders. “Hippocrates” received $1,000 in undue favors from the man as a deposit. The conscript had to pay the remaining agreed amount after receiving a settlement with a false diagnosis of mental illness.
When searching offices and residential areas, the police seized:
- $1000 the businessmen received for their “services”
- other money,
- official documentation,
- “black notes”
- mobile phones,
- other things that were important in the case.
At the time of the preliminary investigation, the funds were seized. The court will decide on them.
The court chose preventive measures for the prisoners in the form of detention with the right to post bail in the amount of 241 thousand 920 hryvnias, which they took advantage of. However, the perpetrators did not start working again: at the request of the investigators, the court removed them from their positions.
