Operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Russia
Fighting continued in the main Ukrainian location in the Kursk region on 29 October, but there were no confirmed changes to the front line.
Russian sources reported no ground activity in the Glushkovsky area west of the main Ukrainian salient in the Kursk region on 29 October.
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on October 29 that unspecified individuals carried out a drone strike on the empty building of the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes, Chechnya. Kadyrov did not blame Ukraine for the drone launch and said Chechen authorities were investigating the attack.
East of Ukraine. Russian Federation Operation No. 1 – Kharkov Region
Russian forces continued limited offensive operations northeast of Kharkov in the Volchansk area on 28 and 29 October, but made no progress.
Russian operation No. 2 – Lugansk region
Russian troops have recently advanced southeast of Kupyansk and west of Svatovo amid ongoing offensive operations along the Kupyansk-Svatovo-Kremennaya line. Geolocation footage released on October 29 indicates that Russian troops have recently advanced east of Kolesnikovka and into a field east of Andreevka.
Russian troops continue offensive operations:
- north of Kupyansk in the Golubovka area;
- northeast of Kupyansk in the Sinkovka area;
- southeast of Kupyansk in the area of Kolesnikovka, Kruglyakovka, Lozovaya, Stepovaya Novoselovka, Zagryzovoy, Berestovoye, Cherneshchina and Novoosinovo;
- southwest of Svatovo in the area of Druzhelyubovka and Grekovka;
- northwest of Kremennaya in the Ternskoye area;
- west of Kremennaya in the area of Yampolevka, Zarechny and Torskoye.
Russian Federation Operation No. 3 – Donetsk Region
Russian troops continued offensive operations in the Seversk area on 29 October, but there were no confirmed changes to the front line.
Russian troops attacked northeast of Seversk in the Belogorovka area; east of Seversk in the Verkhnekamensky area; southeast of Seversk in the Ivano-Darevka area; and south of Seversk in the Zvanovka area.
Russian troops continued offensive operations in the Chasov Yar area and south of Chasov Yar in the Stupochek area on 28 and 29 October, but there were no confirmed changes in the front line.
Ukrainian forces recently retook ground lost in Toretsk during ongoing Russian offensive operations in the area. Geolocation footage released on October 29 indicates that Ukrainian forces have recently retaken lost positions along Krasny Lane in central Toretsk.
Russian troops have recently advanced southeast of Pokrovsk.
Geolocation footage released on October 29 indicates that Russian troops have recently advanced into western and central Selidovo. Additional geolocation footage released on October 28 indicates that Russian troops have recently advanced into central Novodmitrievka
Russian troops have recently advanced east of Kurakhovo. Geolocation footage released on October 29 shows that Russian troops recently advanced east of Kurakhovo in a platoon-sized mechanized attack with three tanks and a mine clearance vehicle.
Russian troops recently advanced southwest of Donetsk in the Ugledar area. Geolocation footage released on October 29 indicates that Russian troops have recently advanced northwest of Bogoyavlenka and into the southern part of Yasnaya Polyana.
ISW assessed that Russian forces had captured the Thirteenth on 27 October.
A Russian source suggested that Russian troops are trying to bypass the Kurakhovo Reservoir (northeast of Kurakhovo) from the northwest, south and southwest – likely to avoid difficult water terrain and try to force Ukrainian troops to withdraw from the Kurakhovo area under threat of encirclement.
“Southern Axis”
Russian forces continued ground attacks in the western Zaporozhye region on 29 October, but achieved no confirmed successes.
Russian sources said on October 29 that the occupiers had broken through Ukrainian defenses north of Rabotino and advanced towards Novodanilovka and Malaya Tokmachka. However, ISW found no evidence of Russian advances north of Rabotino.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that the Russian troops continued the ground attacks in the direction of the Dnieper, probably referring to the eastern (left) bank of the Kherson region and the islands of the Dnieper River delta on 28 and 29 October.
