“I am absolutely sure of it if the russians didn’t have nukes, then we’d be in ukraine kicking them out. But they have nuclear weapons,” Bauer said, adding that this is the difference between the wars in Ukraine and Afghanistan.
According to the admiral, he considers it not impossible to involve alliance troops in the war against Russia, but in this case NATO as an alliance is at risk and therefore this is a “political issue”.
“Everybody says later that the red line wasn’t a red line, so why didn’t we give those weapons earlier? But if you look at the problem in the future – when there’s an issue and you don’t necessarily understand the consequences – then it’s much more difficult, ” he explained.
At the same time, he noted that Ukraine cannot be compared to Afghanistan because it is of “strategic importance” to NATO. Therefore, the United States (US) must not allow the dictator Vladimir Putin to emerge victorious from the war.
Nuclear threat to Russia
Russia regularly threatens to use nuclear weapons, especially against Western countries and the United States. Recently Putin suggested changing the state’s policy on the use of nuclear weapons. The updated version of the Russian nuclear doctrine provides “clarification of certain aspects” regarding situations in which the use of weapons of mass destruction is permitted.
The European Union (EU) strongly condemned these new statements, as the dictator acknowledged the possibility of a nuclear response to large-scale air strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, as Time noted, Western leaders are increasingly less amenable to nuclear threats from Moscow. Their determination to support Ukraine continues to grow.
