“On the night of November 17, the Russian occupiers carried out a massive combined attack on facilities in the energy sector of Ukraine using various types of air-, land- and sea-based missiles, as well as Shahed-type UAVs,” the report says.
In general, according to preliminary data, the radio engineering troops of the Air Force identified and escorted 210 enemy air targets – 120 missiles and 90 UAVs.

How did the air defense work?
During the night, all available anti-aircraft forces and assets worked alongside missiles and drones.
According to preliminary data, as of 12:00, there is information about the shooting down of 144 air targets – 102 missiles and 42 UAVs:
- 1 hypersonic ship-based missile 3M22 “Zircon”;
- 7 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles;
- 85 cruise missiles Kh-101, “Caliber”;
- 4 Kh-22/Kh-31P cruise/anti-radar missiles;
- 5 X-59/69 guided anti-aircraft missiles;
- 42 attack UAVs/drones of unknown type (from Kursk, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk areas).
As a result of active resistance of the defense forces, 41 enemy UAVs were lost locally in various regions of Ukraine, two more UAVs flew towards Russia and the temporarily occupied territory.
In which areas did the air defense operate?
Air defense operated in almost all regions of Ukraine – in Kiev, Cherkassy, Kirovograd, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkov, Poltava, Odessa, Nikolaev, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Vinnitsa, Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Volyn and Lviv regions.
Features of the RF attack
According to the military, the enemy involved 7 Tu-160 and 16 Tu-95MS strategic bombers, 2 Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, 5 Su-34 fighter-bombers, 4 Su-27 fighters, 10 MiG-31K fighters, 4 ships in the air attack -carriers of cruise missiles.
Let’s note that the previous occupiers almost never used Tu-160 aircraft for shelling in Ukraine. Before this, only one known case of attack by such aircraft during the war was on May 1, 2023.
