In the comment, the department noted that they “thoroughly documented” the dictator’s speech about the use of an intermediate-range ballistic missile against Ukraine. And they added that from an international legal point of view, this is “another important evidence and actual admission of guilt for committing the crime of aggression against Ukraine and all resulting atrocities against Ukrainians.”
The Foreign Ministry assured that it would ensure that this and other public confessions by Putin are used to bring him and his henchmen to justice, stressing that “justice is inevitable.”
Ukraine has the right to target the Russian Federation
The Ministry is also convinced that such a statement by the Russian dictator once again indicates Russia’s interest in continuing this war.
“It is Putin who is constantly expanding his scope and ferocity, attracting weapons from Iran and North Korea, North Korean troops, and now using a strategic ballistic missile capable of carrying weapons of mass destruction. We call on the countries of the nuclear club to warn the Russian Federation about the threat of nuclear weapons,” it is noted in a statement to the Foreign Ministry.
The department called “absurd” Putin’s accusations against Ukraine or its partners of alleged illegal actions, “which in any way provoke a criminal to commit a crime.” They reminded that Ukraine is protected from aggression in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and has every right to strike any legitimate military target on the territory of the Russian Federation in accordance with international law.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that to stop these attacks, it is enough for Russia to stop the aggression and withdraw troops from the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
According to diplomats, “today’s statement reaffirms that Putin is the only one standing in the way of ending the war and restoring a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace.”
“His recent reckless steps, including attacks on Ukrainian nuclear facilities and the use of a new type of missile, are a challenge, including to all the leaders of countries that recently declared the inadmissibility of expanding the war. We expect that they will not remain silent, but will respond to Putin’s negligence, the creation of unacceptable threats to radiation safety and unacceptable nuclear blackmail, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Concessions will not work
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid particular attention to Putin’s attempts to manipulate public opinion in the countries of Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America and shift responsibility for the war he started to other countries.
The department considers the dictator’s attempts to portray himself as a champion of a multipolar world “nonsensical”. Diplomats called Russia’s actions against Ukraine a “colonialist, imperialist policy”. In particular, they mean “the chronic non-recognition of our state’s right to existence, independence and sovereignty and attempts to seize Ukrainian mineral resources.”
The State Department noted that “under the mantra of the transition to a multipolar world, Russia persistently spreads the narrative of the legitimacy of using force to redistribute spheres of influence.” And they emphasized that this is completely contrary to the UN Charter, the norms and principles of international law.
“Putin himself proved today to the whole world that he can only be forced into peace, no amount of talk will work and will not work now. The only realistic approach is peace through violence, the restoration of full respect for the UN Charter, the norms of international law , Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
