The department informs that until the end of 2024, Norway will train Ukrainian pilots in Denmark. The country has provided aircraft and instructors for training since the fall of 2023. The new stage of the exercises, starting in 2025, will take place in Portugal, as it is its turn to take over the baton.
“The government has reserved funds to support the training of Ukrainian pilots and ground personnel in 2025. At the beginning of the year, F-16 training in Denmark will be suspended. From the new year, the Norwegian Armed Forces will in return provide instructors for the training of Ukrainian F-16 -pilots in Portugal, says Norwegian Defense Minister Björn Arild Gram.
The Defense Ministry’s website also states that these exercises are part of Norway’s contribution to the Air Defense Coalition (ADC), where countries contribute to the development of the Ukrainian Air Force.
“I am very proud of the efforts of Norwegian personnel working to provide Ukrainian fighter pilots, technicians and ground personnel with the best possible training. Now Portugal is taking over the baton from Denmark, albeit for a shorter period,” the Norwegian head of the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
Let’s remember that about a week ago, President Vladimir Zelensky announced that Ukraine received from Denmark the second batch of F-16 fighters. He added that Western planes are already on the territory of our country.
At the same time, planes from the first batch from Denmark are already shooting down Russian missiles and also saving the lives and infrastructure of Ukrainians.
