Umerov discussed with the EU commissioner the preparations of strategic reserve brigades

In Kiev on Friday, December 13, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met EU Defense and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius. The parties discussed a number of issues.

“We discussed the security situation and threats from the escalation of Russian aggression. We aim to make cooperation with each of our partners even more effective in 2025,” he wrote.

For this, according to Umerov, an analysis of the support that Ukraine received in previous years was started. New areas of work were also described, in particular:

• using proceeds from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine;
• expansion of EUMAM’s training mission to train the Ukrainian military;
• investments in Ukraine’s defense sector to strengthen domestic production.

Umerov and Kubilius paid special attention to the preparation of strategic reserve brigades. Negotiations are already underway with a number of European countries to equip and train Ukrainian units. Umerov also added that Ukraine expects the EU to play a coordinating role in speeding up these agreements.

“Our goal is to provide the military with everything needed to bring a just world closer, thanks to Andrius Kubilius for his consistent support for Ukraine. Without a strong Ukraine, stability and security on the European continent is impossible,” the Minister of Defense concluded.

Let us remind you that yesterday the new commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mikhail Drapatiy announced changes in military training. He noted that now the ground forces need changes and a modern approach to develop the capabilities of the soldiers.
