While in the Netherlands the striker’s name may sound different, it is impossible for Brazilian fans not to remember the character played by actor Leandro Firmino in director Fernando Meirelles’ work released in 2002.

Zépiqueno Redmond was born four years after the film was released, and the choice of name was no coincidence: his parents were actually inspired by the story. They only slightly adapted Zé Pequeno’s original.
It was revealed at Feyenoord headquarters that Zépiqueno played only his fourth match for the professional team this Monday. He made his debut on 10 November, starting against Almere City, in the Dutch Championship.
After that, he returned to play for Feyenoord’s U-19 team, alternating with professional appearances. He came on in the second half against Heerenveen, and started again against Fortuna Sittard.
This Tuesday, Zépiqueno Redmond – or Zépi, as he is called at the club – opened the scoring for Feyenoord after two minutes and added ten minutes into the second half, shortly before leaving for Mexico’s Santiago Gimenez.
