According to Zelensky, he did not speak with Orban. He also noted that the Hungarian Prime Minister has no mandate for negotiations.
“I have not had a conversation with the Prime Minister of Hungary, I think it is very frivolous when we talk about some initiatives related to the life of Ukrainians, and when we learn about them from the media,” the president said.
He also believes that Orban and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin have too warm a relationship for the former to put Putin in his place.
“All this looks more like political PR, I don’t know what the Hungarian side is proposing. Besides it just sounds “celebratory” – but we have nothing fun discussed or decided about Ukraine without us. Therefore, we are skeptical about this, says Zelensky.
“Christmas Truce”
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine allegedly refused his proposal regarding the so-called “Christmas truce”. Orban said so the initiative was proposed to both the Ukrainian and Russian sides.
Later, the communications adviser to the President of Ukraine Dmitry Lytvyn noted that the Russian Federation used this statement to prepare another strike against Ukraine.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called the Hungarian side stop manipulations on the topic of “Christmas truce”.
Zelensky has already responded to Orban’s statement and noted it Orban cannot mediate peace talks.
