The former sugar warehouse, which in twenty-six years became one of the most important theaters and festive evenings in Marseille, was to close its doors on December 31, at the request of the owner of the premises, the public institution Euroméditerranée. The symbolic end of a story, some time after the death, in August 2023, of one of the souls of the place, the co-founder Southern FiestaBernard Aubert.
On Tuesday, December 17, in the face of a wave of public protests, sent by various left-wing mayors, Benoit Payanin person, Euroméditerranée finally granted additional time to the site manager, the Latinissimo association. This unexpected extension adds to a story full of twists and turns. Each year, it hosts approximately sixty festive events in its two venues with 2,800 and 1,400 seats. It was the den of the Fiesta des Suds until 2017, and Cabaret rouge, the smallest of its rooms, has become essential for the electronic music scene, very active in Marseille.
