The head of state rejected the possibility that Ukraine would completely abandon Crimea and Donbass. This is prohibited by the constitution.
“De facto, these territories are now controlled by the Russians. We do not have the strength to return them. We can only count on diplomatic pressure from the international community to force Putin to the negotiating table,” he said.
When asked if Ukraine is ready for negotiations with Putin, Zelenskiy replied that the important thing is not who sits at the table, but what the position is. According to the president, Ukraine’s position is now not weak, but also not strong, as it is still unknown whether the country will become a member of NATO and the EU.
“Yes, in the future, but when sitting at the table with Putin under these conditions means giving him the right to decide for us,” the head of state added.
