According to Lubinets, the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war in 2024 is almost twice as high as in the previous two years of a full-scale invasion. Of the 177 confirmed cases 109 occurred in 2024.
Lubinets stressed that his office learns about most cases from videos from Ukrainian intelligence services. At the same time, there are cases when information comes directly from Ukrainian military units.
In addition, the Russians themselves often publish relevant videos on social networks.
The Ukrainian side informs the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN about cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war. However, Lubinets emphasized that the ICRC has never publicly or privately accused the Russians of killing or torturing Ukrainian prisoners of war.
However, Lubinets noted that in official UN reports for 2024 there was information for the first time that the Russians executed Ukrainian defenders.
