The Security Service of Ukraine has collected evidence about the traitor Lee Won Chol, a Ukrainian citizen of Korean origin (also known under the pseudonym German Prokopov).
What is known about Lee Won Chul
In 2014, he participated in the seizure of the Lugansk regional state administration, from which he tore down the Ukrainian flag and installed the Russian “tricolor” in its place.
Then the defendant fought as part of the occupation groups of the Russian Federation against the ATO forces, and after the outbreak of a full-scale war, he attacked the fighting positions of the Defense Forces on the Eastern Front.
In October 2024, in the Spornoye area of the Donetsk region, Ukrainian defenders completely defeated an assault company of the invaders, which included a traitor, and he, as the only survivor, was captured.
Discovered investigative actions
According to the investigation, after the seizure of the Luhansk Regional State Administration, the attacker participated in mass riots, organized pro-Russian demonstrations and fights, and also intimidated local patriots.
In addition, from February 24, 2022, the militant, together with the Russian occupiers, captured the cities of Rubezhnoye, Severodonetsk and Lisichansk in the Luhansk region, as well as the village of Spornoye in the Donetsk region.
After the arrest, the traitor gave an incriminating testimony about the capture of Lugansk in 2014 and the war crimes of the occupiers during the full-scale Russian invasion.
Security Service investigators informed Lee Won-chul of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 1 Art. 111 (high treason);
- Part 2 Art. 110 (violation of territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
- Part 2 Art. 260 (participation in armed formations not prescribed by law).
The perpetrator is currently in custody. He faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
