“No legislative initiatives to lower the mobilization age from 25 to 18 or 20 are being considered either in the parliament as a whole or in the relevant Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence in particular,” he noted.
According to Venislavsky, bill or proposal to amend Art. 23 of the Law of Ukraine “On Mobilization Preparation and Mobilization”, which establishes that citizens of Ukraine until they reach the age of 25 are not subject to conscription for military service during mobilization, was not submitted to the National Security Committee for consideration.
The people’s representative emphasized that no ideas are being considered about the compulsory mobilization of women who are conscripted or will be after voluntary basic conscription.
According to the legal regulations that apply today, women liable for conscription can be called up for conscription during mobilization only through voluntary consent.
“All other statements, including those concerning the forced mobilization of 18-24-year-olds after they have completed basic military service, are manipulations and speculations, including from some of our colleagues,” Venislavsky added.
What preceded this
Let us remind you that the issue of lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine is not the first time that it has been discussed in the public space in recent months. In October, the president’s office stated that US politicians were in favor of lowering the mobilization age to 18. However, Ukraine did not agree to this.
The Washington Post wrote that the US is disappointed that Ukraine does not want to mobilize from the age of 18. The publication claims that Ukraine, allegedly under pressure from the US, is considering protecting 18-year-olds or a possible compromise – lowering the conscription age to 20.
